What it is
The Eastern Association of Private Schools is a private, voluntary membership association. It is not a government agency and does not claim state or federal recognition. Schools join by choice and are reviewed against the standards published on this site.

Accreditation by the Eastern Association of Private Schools is a statement by a private association. It is not a government license, not state recognition, and not approval by any department of education, and it should never be described as any of those things.
Why a private association
Private schools are not required to be accredited by anyone. A school chooses it, and a voluntary review against published standards is worth something precisely because it was chosen and can be examined. That is what this association offers, and no more than that.
